Bersih to proceed, appeals to the police
Malaysiakini (8/11/2007):“We urge the public not to be afraid of threats by the police or other irresponsible parties,” said Mohamed in a statement read by Bersih secretariat member Aiman Athirah Al Jundi.

But police warn public - stay away
“Do not attend the gathering. Do not go near Dataran Merdeka this Saturday... we will take harsh action (against offenders),” Kuala Lumpur chief police officer Zulhasnan Najib Baharuddin said.

Perdana Menteri, yang dalam lawatan kerja dua hari ke Pahang bermula semalam menegaskan, beliau tidak akan melayan pihak tertentu yang bersikap seperti "iblis" yang berasakan ia lebih pandai daripada orang lain.

‘‘Jadi yang goyang pokok itu (sebarkan fitnah), saya ibaratkan seperti beruk, beruk sarkas,’’ katanya (Khairy) sambil disambut gelak ketawa perwakilan ketika berucap merasmikan Persidangan Perwakilan Pergerakan Pemuda UMNO Bahagian Klang, di sini malam tadi.
On beruk and iblis:
"...bukan budaya UMNO, itu budaya kurang ajar. Ada yang panggil saya beruk, ada panggil iblis, ini budaya UMNO yang baru,” kata Dr Mahathir.
