Proposal to increase Butterworth-Kulim toll
The Star (8/11/2007): The concessionaire of the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway has submitted its request to increase toll rates for motorists using the highway.
KLBK Sdn Bhd general manager Abdul Razak Othman said the company had sent its request to the Works Ministry for approval.
"Our request is based on our concession agreement with the Government. If approved, the new toll rate will take effect in January. However, the Government has the final say in approving our request," he said at the company's Hari Raya open house at its office in Kubang Semang, near here, on Thursday.
Abdul Razak said the company that operated the 17km expressway was allowed to raise the toll rates every three years based on the agreement.
KLBK entered an agreement with the Government to build and operate the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway in 1996 until 2026.
He said the company had reviewed toll rates for the highway three times since it was opened in 1996.
