Vote SJER!

Old Harry wants you to vote SJER, sorry, Barisan Nasional. This news speaks for itself:
Malaysia will not face economic hardship - Kuan Yew

SINGAPORE, Jan 7 (Bernama) - Malaysia will experience a healthy economic growth this year as the signs are positive, former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew said tonight.

He said the current high prices of petroleum and Malaysia's commodities such as palm oil and others would bring good revenues this year and keep the country's economy buoyant.

Lee was speaking at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) 40th anniversary gala dinner here.

He said although Malaysia was expected to experience lower growth of 5.6 percent compared to 5.7 percent last year, the country would not face any economic hardship.

Lee mentioned that Malaysia was embarking on major economic projects such as developing the whole country through integrated plans like the Southern Johor, East Coast and Northern Corridor Economic Regions.

Corridor development generates overall economy

NST (7/11/2007): Datuk Seri Dr Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the development corridor concept would not only generate a more comprehensive and widespread economic development but also contribute towards efforts at eradicating poverty.

The Prime Minister said the philosophy behind the development corridors was that no one should be left out of the economic mainstream.

“Economic sectors and geographical regions that are currently lagging behind will be developed quickly, without neglecting any particular sector or area,” said Abdullah in his policy speech as Umno president at the Umno General Assembly 2007 today.

He said that the development of economic corridors would generate additional income and new sources of wealth which would be harvested.

“All these corridors are aimed at improving the lives of the people by ensuring that they taste the fruits of success,” he said.
Abdullah said the economic corridors were part of the government’s national agenda and did not take into account party politics.

“It should be seen as a larger plan to vault every Malaysian, especially the Malays, to greater prosperity, and it also proves the determination of the Barisan Nasional government to develop the entire nation for the well-being of the people,” he said.

A class of Malay managers capable of successfully running businesses had emerged, the Prime Minister said.

As such, he said, the presumption that the Iskandar Development Region in Johor would harm the Malays with the entry of foreign investors was an insult to the ability of the Malays to compete on the global stage.

“We will never sacrifice the interest of Malaysians and the Malays. The investment that we will attract from all over the world will accelerate our economic growth and the benefits will be enjoyed by all,” he said.

Abdullah said the government would provide the necessary facilitation and encouragement to enable all Malays who wished to compete in these corridors the ability to do so.

These development corridors would also give a new face and a fresh approach to agriculture in Malaysia through structural changes, especially to allow Malay participation in the supply chain.

He said the agricultural sector would now involve much more than harvesting primary products which was labour and time intensive, but yielding low value returns.

“Today, the supply chain is not yet controlled by the Malays, much less Malay farmers,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the government would work towards effecting a transformation from traditional to modern agriculture which, through the use of biotechnology and the information and communications technology (ICT), would be more productive and profitable.

Ghani: IDR has our full support

NST (7/11/2007): The perception that Johor Umno is not fully supportive of the development initiatives under the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) is not true, said its liasion chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.

Commenting on Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s speech which touched on the Malays’ participation in the IDR, he said Johor Umno had been supportive of the development plan from day one of its inception.

The Umno president in his speech said that any perception that Malays were incapable of taking part in the IDR was an insult to the race.

Johor Umno had recently been labelled by certain quarters including Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew as opposing the IDR project. Lee had told investors from the republic to be wary of investing in IDR due to what he described as hindrances posed by Johor Umno.
Ghani said the Malays in Johor had always viewed IDR as a development plan which would balance progress in the country and provide opportunities for them in terms of investment, businesses and jobs.
“And we (Johor Umno) are confident that Malays are capable of being part of the development plan because they have the necessary qualities such as professionalism and qualifications.

“The IDR would also enable us to provide a lynchpin for Malay entrepreneurs in Johor to move ahead as we have the cooperation of the relevant agencies to turn the project into something that is really beneficial for the Malays.”

A Voice My Rambling Mind At The Session With Anwar
There were issues raised about him holding back personal criticism on the Prime Minister and yet his campaign against Dato Najib in the Ijok by-election was personal. There was a more serious tone to his voice as he denied both allegations.

While he acknowledged “you (all) are more critical of Abdullah than me,” he clarified that he has stated in "strong terms" like incompetent and corrupt to describe Abdullah’s administration. My rambling mind was telling me that without specifics, such general accusations is meaningless in Malaysian politics. This is where lies the rising conspiracy of a covert agreement between Anwar and certain parties within UMNO.

He mentioned about some interesting request he gets from family members back in Permatang Pauh that “interlock” with Pak Lah’s. He was asked to hold back his criticism of Pak Lah for reasons he is an Ulamak’s grandson. The typical rural Malay mind.
